ESCAPE TO PENTRIDGE PRISON (2018)

A documentary on the development of Coburg's Pentridge prison. Advertisements for the new 'Pentridge Village' promise an "escape to Pentridge". The irony is so blatant, one wonders if it were intentional. The flagrant insensitivity in the marketing of apartment complexes built on what was once Australia's worst prison encapsulates the issues raised as Melbourne is developed further and further, more often than not by off-shore companies. The documentary focuses on Ray Mooney, former inmate of the infamous H.Division, who now advocates for transparency in the development of Heritage-listed infrastructure and the perseverance of Melbourne's dark penal history.
