NO BASTA CON AMAR lo bueno [Redención abundante, 2 de 5]
(00:42–02:44) Brother Nelson states that spiritual growth requires two parallel lessons: loving good and detesting evil. It is not enough to simply love what is good, because evil often disguises itself as virtue: violence can appear as justice, cowardice as prudence, and flattery as obedience. (02:44–05:58) The importance of the examination of conscience, inspired by the spirituality of St. Ignatius of Loyola, is emphasized for discovering the “disguises” of evil in one's own life. Spiritual vigilance must be directed both outward and inward. (05:58–10:28) The theme of the “Day of the Lord” in the biblical prophets is presented as the manifestation of the consequences of sin and divine justice. Israel's rebellion was not an isolated event, but a constant that the prophets denounced throughout history. (10:28–11:59) It is explained that human actions have inevitable consequences: “what one sows, that one will also reap.” God’s justice is good news because it guarantees that the moral universe has meaning and that God is trustworthy. (11:59–17:50) The speaker develops the biblical notion of justice, differentiating it from the classical legal definition. In the Bible, to be just means to conform to God’s will, acting with wisdom, kindness, and timeliness. The image of a well-fitting door serves to illustrate this idea. (17:50–24:32) The central theme of justification in the letters of St. Paul, especially Romans and Galatians, is addressed. In contrast to the Pharisaical view of salvation as contractual compliance with the Law, Paul teaches that justification comes through faith and openness to God’s free gift. This explanation aligns with the traditional Pauline understanding that justification is not obtained through works of the Law, but through faith in Christ. (24:32–32:15) The biblical meaning of “judge” is clarified. When Jesus says “do not judge,” he is not prohibiting discerning moral behavior, but rather arrogating to oneself the right to decide the eternal destiny of people, something that belongs solely to God. (32:15–36:54) The reflection returns to the “Day of the Lord” and the wrath of God, understood—following St. Thomas Aquinas—as the manifestation of the accumulated consequences of sin. It is also emphasized that indignation at injustice can be a legitimate expression of love for good. (36:54–39:21) The main conclusion is that the “Day of the Lord” finds its fulfillment in the cross of Christ. There, justice and mercy are perfectly united: the consequences of sin fall upon Christ, who bears the guilt of humanity. The Good News is that God, out of love, assumed in his own Son that which human beings could not bear on their own. *** BECOME A MEMBER of the Channel!
