THE CONCEPT OF MAN IN MAROON PHILOSOPHY, Part 3 By André R. M. Pakosie In this episode of the documentary series on the Maroon philosophical conception of the human being, I provide a further elucidation of the Akaä, one of the three principal substances that constitute the Yeye, the human soul. The Yeye comprises three primary components: Akaä, Bungadu, and Nénseki. As explained in Part 1, the visible human body has an invisible origin: the Yoöka. This suprasensible core precedes the material form of the human being, a body that is, in essence, always a dead body. Through the process of materialisation undergone by the Yoöka, and through the attachment of a Yeye (soul) to this core, the always-dead body was brought to life. This episode therefore addresses the central question: what is the Akaä, and what function does it fulfil within the constitution of the human being? It is advisable to follow the entire series with sustained attention, so that the interrelations among the concepts discussed, Yoöka, Akaä, Bungadu, and Nénseki, can be fully appreciated.
