In the 5th instalment of our BOPTest series. Dr Sicheng Zhan, a postdoctoral associate at MIT Building Technology, discusses the scenarios and conditions for greater physics integration to benefit the decision-making process. Then, Yunqin Liu, a doctoral researcher in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at HKUST, presents an end-to-end Smart Predict- then-Optimise (SPO) framework that embeds the optimisation problem directly into the training of the forecasting model using differentiable optimisation techniques.
