Prof. Kapil Kapoor | Keynote Address | Somnath - National Symposium

Somnath is more than a monument; it is a memory that refuses to fade. As we commemorated 75 years of the inauguration of Somnath Temple by the then President of India, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, on 11 May 1951, Prof. Kapil Kapoor delivered a special lecture reflecting on its enduring greatness. Prof. Kapil Kapoor is a distinguished scholar, teacher and pioneer in Indian Knowledge Systems, with a teaching career spanning over six decades. A legendary figure among students and scholars, he is known for his lucid and original interpretations of Indian literature, philosophy, aesthetics, linguistics and textual traditions. He taught for many years at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, where he served as Pro-VC, Professor of English, Concurrent Professor at the Special Centre for Sanskrit Studies, Dean of the School of Language, Literature and Culture Studies, and Rector. He has chaired and served on several major academic and policy bodies, including the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla, and the MHRD Language Expert Committee.
