Stopped at 96km: My Val d'Aran by UTMB Heartbreak

The Val d'Aran by UTMB (CDH) was supposed to be my redemption race. After my previous 100K attempt was canceled, I came to the Spanish Pyrenees ready for 110km and 6,000m of elevation gain. But for the second time in a row, the weather had other plans. I started conservatively near the back of the pack (1152nd place) and got stuck in a brutal 20-minute bottleneck at the first single track. But over the next 19 hours, I fought my way up to 450th place, battling steep climbs and cut-off anxiety. Then, at 2:00 AM—after 96.2km and over 5,000m of climbing—the race was stopped due to a severe storm. [Timestamps] [00:00] Intro: The Course (110km, 6,000m vert) & The Plan [02:06] The Start: "Welcome to the UTMB Family" [05:04] The Bottleneck: Stuck at a standstill for 20 mins [06:44] The Climb Begins: Fighting from the back [08:57] Beautiful Views of the Pyrenees [12:36] Night Falls: The storm approaches [15:14] The Grind: 19 hours deep [17:47] The End: Stopped at 96km (Race Cancelled) [Race Stats] Race: Val d'Aran by UTMB (CDH) Location: Val d'Aran, Spanish Pyrenees Distance Ran: 96.2 km (before cancellation) Elevation Gain: 5,143 m Result: Stopped due to weather (Unofficial Finisher?) #ValdAran #UTMB #CDH #Pyrenees #UltraRunning #TrailRunning #RaceReport #EasierSaidThanRun #Type2Fun #DNF
