5 yrs & 500 hrs on the Hardest Working RV-14 in the Fleet!?
It blows my mind that the RV-14 has flown over 500 hours now! (And that it has been 5 years since it started flying!) The plan when we built it was to get unto some awesome adventures, but I have to admit I didn’t foresee going as far as actually doing competitive aerobatics with it. No doubt, in the bak of my mind I wondered if I was pushing it too far - this airplane is AMAZING for a how wide a spectrum it has in terms of vision profiles, it does a lot of things well, but it is not purpose built for competition. Thus I decided to have a really hard look at it with an expert to see how the airframe was holding up. Please share any comments for things we didn’t address in this one, and I’ll cover as many as I can in the next one that will be da deep dive into the engine when I fly to Lycoming in the spring. And there will be an episode coming soon from the trip to Hartzell talking about the prop(s) in detail. NOTE: there is a ~25 minute video available to Patreon supporters that shares most of the other bits from this #maintenance inspection that didn’t make the public version on YouTube. I have had my PPL for over 20 years, but still consider each flight a learning experience - I generally take detailed notes after each flight to remind myself what went well or what I could do to improve.... Having GoPro cameras to record flights like this is invaluable. I find these self analysis videos very helpful in my constant quest to improve, and am happy to share. Feedback is invited; however, please keep it positive.
