Adam Rapa - Arutunian Concerto (Highlights) - Banda Artistica de Merza

There’s a heartwarming personal story to this video, which I hope you’ll take a minute to read (también en Castellano abajo): 3 years ago, I was invited to the Galaico Brass Festival in Galicia, Spain, where I met the woman who became my wife, and who inspired me, against all odds, to become a dad. Since then, I’ve been growing roots in this beautiful little pueblo called Merza, and I’ve continued to play in the festival each year. THIS year, that meant guesting with the Banda Artistica de Merza, our town’s wind symphony. I chose a piece that I’ve wanted to play with a large ensemble for a long time; my favorite piece in the standard trumpet repertoire in fact, and the band did a great job. My wife Virginia used to play in the band, and maybe some day our daughter Ellen will too! In the hopes that you’ll actually make it to the end of this video, I challenged myself to edit it down to exactly 5 minutes on the dot. That meant cutting a whole lot of beautiful music, but you can use your imagination for the rest. 😉 If you REALLY want to hear me play the whole thing, I’m now accepting offers from orchestras & wind symphonies for 2026, and I’d be delighted to get some more reps playing this piece, along with some of my crazier, more unique works. Perfect for soloists in any genre. ——— Hay una conmovedora historia personal detrás de este vídeo, que espero que tomes un minuto para leer: Hace tres años, me invitaron al Galaico Brass Festival en Galicia, España, donde conocí a la mujer que se convirtió en mi esposa y que, contra todo pronóstico, me inspiró para ser padre. Desde entonces, he echado raíces en este precioso pueblecito llamado Merza y he seguido tocando en el festival cada año. Este año toqué con la Banda Artística de Merza, la banda de nuestro pueblo. Elegí una pieza que llevaba mucho tiempo queriendo tocar con un ensemble grande; de hecho, es mi pieza favorita del repertorio estándar para trompeta, y la banda lo hizo muy bien. Mi esposa Virginia solía tocar en la banda, y quizá algún día también lo haga nuestra hija Ellen! Con la esperanza de que lleguen hasta el final del vídeo, me he propuesto editarlo para que dure exactamente 5 minutos. Eso ha supuesto cortar mucha música preciosa, pero pueden usar su imaginación para el resto. 😉 Si de verdad quieren escucharme tocar la obra completa, estoy aceptando ofertas de orquestas y bandas sinfónicas por 2026, y me encantaría poder tocar esta pieza más veces, junto con algunas de mis obras más unicas y singulares.
