【4K Stroll】Tsuwano - Shimane - Japan / A Town With a Waterway Filled With Colorful Carp

✋Hello! Today we will stroll down a charming street recognized as an "Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Building", and is lined with buildings dating back to the Edo Period (1603 - 1868). We will also visit an extraordinary church located on this street. Tsuwano is a town on the western edge of Shimane Prefecture in Japan. Tonomachi Street is the main street of the old town and is a major tourist area with many old samurai houses, sake breweries, museums and shops. There is also a waterway that was once used for irrigation and firefighting, and carp, which were used as emergency food in times of war or disaster, still live there today. Interestingly, the town as a whole has more carp than residents, making them a symbol of Tsuwano. In early June, irises bloom colorfully along the waterway, and in autumn the Ginko Biloba trees lining the street turn beautifully yellow. The city is surrounded by hills and contains many well-preserved cultural properties, and places of religious worship. Amidst the traditional Japanese architecture along Tonomachi Street, a Catholic church constructed by a German priest in 1931 captures attention. What makes this church distinctive is the presence of tatami mats laid out on the floor instead of conventional benches.
