Empire Size Is NOT As Bad As You Think | Stellaris 4.3 Guide
Hey everyone! In this video I cover the many modifiers and calculations we have regarding Empire Size in Stellaris. Empire Size in Stellaris 4.3 is a constant struggle - you can no longer eliminate its effects like you could in 4.2, which means every planet, every pop and every district permanently increases your tech and tradition costs. But most players dramatically overestimate how much empire size actually hurts them. This video breaks down the complete empire size system in 4.3 - the math behind how it works, the break-even point that proves expanding is almost always worth it, and every single reduction available in the game. The break-even math is simpler than you think. A fully developed planet with 10,000 pops adds roughly 14% to your tech cost. On an empire producing 5,000 research per month, that planet only needs to contribute 700 research to pay for itself - just 7 tech per 100 researchers. On a colony ascended to tier 10 in the Glacinate Regime playthrough producing 10,000 tech per month, you only need 300 researchers per planet to break even. On an unascended colony, that number is still just 600. Empire size is a tax, not a wall. For reductions, there are three scopes that multiply together: pop scope, colony scope and empire-wide scope. Every empire in the game can achieve -25% empire size from pops through traditions, galactic resolutions and technology alone. Add governor skill, species traits and colony ascension and pop empire size drops from 0.5 per 100 pops to 0.065 - nearly a 90% reduction. Colony empire size can be reduced from 20 per planet down to 3 for any empire using Imperial Prerogative, Courier Network and colony ascension. Build-specific modifiers like Oligarchic Supervision, Nanotech tradition finisher and Private Prospectors civic can push individual planet costs to near-zero. Districts, systems and general empire size reductions are also covered, including the rare Lost Building Methods technology, the Interstellar Assembly megastructure, and every build-specific modifier worth knowing about. 00:00 - Intro 00:52 - How Empire Size Works 01:47 - The Break-Even Point 05:06 - The Scope System 05:58 - Reducing Pop Empire Size 08:24 - Reducing Colony Empire Size 09:52 - Reducing District Empire Size 10:52 - Reducing System Empire Size 11:20 - Reducing General Empire Size 11:58 - Other Empire Size Reductions 12:48 - Final Considerations #Stellaris #Stellaris43 #EmpireSize #StellarisGuide #StellarisStrategy #StellarisTutorial #StellarisMeta #StellarisEmpireSize #Stellaris2026 #GrandStrategy
