Magura Małastowska: nieoczekiwany biwak i historia w lesie
We spent the night in a parking lot at Małastowska Pass, unknowingly breaking a local rule that prohibits staying there after dark. We ignored a small sign forbidding overnight stays and only realized in the morning that we had camped in a restricted area. Fortunately, there were no consequences, and in the final minutes of our video, we show you another safe parking spot just across the road. Małastowska Pass, nestled in the heart of the Low Beskids, captivates with its untouched nature and rich history. Right by the road, you'll find War Cemetery No. 60—a small yet poignant reminder of the fierce battles of World War I. Wooden crosses and a stone monument create a solemn atmosphere, commemorating soldiers from various armies. Surrounded by a quiet forest, this place invites reflection and contemplation. Eager to uncover more historical traces, we embarked on a short trail to reach Magura Małastowska. The hike is neither long nor difficult, though some parts are overgrown, so sturdy shoes and protection against scratches are recommended. Our destination was another war cemetery—No. 58, designed by Dušan Jurkovič. Hidden deep in the woods, it's less known than the cemetery at the pass but even more atmospheric and authentic. Wooden crosses blending with the forest landscape and remnants of stone elements remind visitors of the fragile fate of soldiers who fell in 1915. Although we didn’t visit Cemetery No. 59, we know it’s nearby and worth seeing if you have extra time. However, the Low Beskids offer more than just war cemeteries—they boast vast forests, unassuming villages with Lemko heritage, and picturesque landscapes perfect for escaping city noise. Our stay proved that even unexpected adventures (like camping in a restricted area) can bring valuable experiences and a fresh perspective on Poland’s lesser-known corners. We invite you to watch our video, where we share what it’s like to spend the night in a not-so-legal spot and reveal a stress-free alternative. We hope our journey inspires you to explore the Low Beskids—a place where history silently intertwines with wild nature.
