BIG ANG

Angela "Big Ang" Raiola was one of reality television's most unforgettable personalities. With her larger-than-life laugh, unmistakable voice, and oversized heart, Big Ang became a fan favorite on Mob Wives, bringing humor and warmth to a world filled with mob connections, family drama, and larger-than-life characters. Born in Brooklyn in 1960, Big Ang grew up surrounded by New York's old-school Italian-American culture. She was the niece of a Genovese crime family capo, and much of her life was shaped by those connections. Before becoming a television star, she lived a colorful life, working in bars, dating wiseguys, and embracing the flashy lifestyle that would later make her famous. But her story wasn't without controversy. In the early 2000s, Big Ang was caught up in a federal drug investigation involving cocaine distribution in Brooklyn and Manhattan. She pleaded guilty, received probation, and eventually turned her life around, later opening her Staten Island bar, The Drunken Monkey. Despite her success, her felony conviction would ultimately force the bar to close years later. Everything changed in 2012 when Big Ang joined VH1's Mob Wives. Her quick wit, glamorous style, and genuine kindness made her an instant breakout star. She became so popular that she landed her own spin-off series, Big Ang, followed by Miami Monkey, giving viewers an even closer look at her unforgettable personality. Tragically, in 2015, Big Ang was diagnosed with throat cancer caused by decades of smoking. Although she initially appeared to beat the disease, the cancer returned aggressively, spreading to her lungs and brain. She passed away on February 18, 2016, at just 55 years old. Today, Big Ang is remembered not for her legal troubles or mob connections, but for her infectious laughter, loyalty to family and friends, and the unique charm that made millions of viewers feel like they knew her personally. She remains one of the most beloved stars ever to come out of Mob Wives, proving that sometimes the biggest personality leaves the biggest legacy.
