Kayaking Georgia | Etowah Mining Tunnel | Flipped in 4K!

Follow along as we Kayak Georgia through the Etowah River Mining Tunnel! One of us ended up flipping in the middle of the Etowah Tunnel and three of us made it through! It was an absolute blast and we are so excited to share this with you. We did this Etowah float when the Etowah River CFM was at 189. It is highly recommended you do not try this trip when the CFM is below 140/150 or above 300. Another note of caution is that when you do get to the tunnel, STOP and ensure that you see a bright clear light at the other side. If you cannot see the light at the end of the tunnel (no pun intended), DO NOT ENTER. Instead paddle around the normal river route and try it next time. It is highly possible that logs or other types of debris could block the exit. Take Out location of the Etowah River Mining Tunnel is below the Highway 136 Bridge 7-8 miles down – it will be the first bridge you come to during the entire trip after you put in. The first mile or two of the river has some fairly shallow shoals so In the future I might try Kayaking the Etowah Tunnel Section when the river level Is above 220-230 CFM as we did get stuck a few times. As you can tell Kayaking the Mining tunnel was a blast. Lastly the last several miles did have numerous trees down across the river and some near rapids so be cautious of those strainers! We are currently on a quest to Kayak as many Rivers and Lakes across Georgia as we can! This was an absolutely amazing trip with friends and harrowing experience kayaking through a ¼ mile mining tunnel created to divert the Etowah River.
