L'Histoire des Assyriens - Les Civilisations Antiques

Assyria was the cradle of one of Mesopotamia's greatest empires. The Assyrians extended their influence over a territory stretching from Anatolia to Egypt and from Lebanon to Iran. The city of Assur already existed during the third millennium BC, in the time of the Sumerians and Akkadians, but it was only from the middle of the second millennium BC that the city of the god Assur gradually expanded its influence to the point of becoming the greatest empire of its time. In this video, we will study the history of the Assyrians, as well as their societies and their religion, particularly around the central figure of Assur, their national and bloodthirsty god. The long history of the Assyrians can be divided into several phases: 1 — Old Assyrian (2000 to 1400 BC): The small kingdom of Assur fell successively under the rule of the kingdom of Ekallatum, Babylon, and then the Mitanni Empire. 2 — Middle Assyrian (1400 to 934 BC): The kingdom of Assur freed itself from Mitanni control and established itself as an empire. 3 — New Assyrian (934 and 609 BC): After a period of decline at the end of the previous period, the Assyrians rebuilt their empire on a much larger scale. This period was characterized by a culture of perpetual warfare, massacres, and the deportation of populations. The fall of Assyria was brought about by the alliance of the Babylonians and the Medes.
