Getting your CCW in California in 2026 is expensive, confusing, and honestly unconstitutional in a lot of ways. But does that mean you shouldn't do it? Not even close. California makes it harder than almost any other state to legally carry a firearm. Between the handgun roster, the 10-day waiting period, the 16 hours of required training, the hundreds to thousands of dollars in fees, and the long list of sensitive places you still can't carry even after you get approved, the state has done everything it can to make you give up before you even start. But here's the thing. None of that changes what your role is as a husband and a father. Your family's safety is your responsibility, not California's, not your local sheriff's, and not your neighbor's. The process can cost you money and time and paperwork. It cannot change the fact that you are the first and last line of defense for the people you love.
