How Many Mistakes

I wrote "How Many Mistakes?" in the mid eighties. Despite the title it is meant to be uplifting. It is about a famous paradox: If we already have Buddha nature, why do we have to look so far, or work so hard to find it? AI got pretty much what I wanted in terms of music, but also produced this alternative version which I really liked. Lyrics: How many mistakes Will we have to make Before we can find A way to be what we really are inside First you have to find yourself then you got to change yourself got to find a way to be Better than you are Look around and you will see A world in confusion People suffering from greed and fear Desire and delusion Look inside and you will find It’s not much better in your mind The world you've rejected In your mind you'll find reflected How many mistakes Will we have to make Before we can find a way to be What we really are inside? For underneath all of our troubles Lie harmony and beauty All our problems are just bubbles on an endless sea Let them rise and break and fade away Watch carefully to find from Where they are arising You’ll find you are a stranger to yourself So it’s not surprising… How many mistakes We've had to make And why we're still trying to find A way to be what we really are inside Hang on there will come a day When all this will fade away And you will just be At home on an endless sea And you'll see. .. how many mistakes we've had to make In order to find A way to be what we really are inside.
