Recently, the Supreme Court has given an important decision in the tussle between Delhi and the Central Government. Delhi is a union territory and the government of Delhi, and the Center are often at loggerheads regarding the distribution of powers. While hearing one such case, a five-member bench of the Supreme Court has given Delhi government the right to decide on the service sector. According to the decision, now the Delhi government will have the authority to transfer and post officers in Delhi, while the authority of police, public order and land will remain with the Centre. In such a situation, it becomes necessary for us to know that what is this whole matter after all? What are the reasons for the dispute between the central-state government? Also, what has been said about the Centre-State relations in the Constitution?
