Early on the morning of the 21st, a city road collapsed in Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture. The cause is believed to be a damaged water pipe due to the earthquake on the 20th, and a local train line running nearby has suspended service for the entire day on a section of it. The city road collapsed near JR Hebita Station in Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture. At around 4:50 a.m. on the 21st, the fire department received a report that "water is leaking from the road," and when firefighters rushed to the scene, they found the road had collapsed, with the left front of a passenger car stuck in the collapsed section. The collapsed section was approximately 1 meter in length and width and about 1 meter deep, and the driver of the passenger car said that water had accumulated inside the hole and he hadn't noticed it. The passenger car was removed two and a half hours later, and the driver was unharmed. According to the Ishinomaki Regional Wide Area Waterworks Enterprise Association, the road collapsed because a water pipe in the ground was damaged, causing water to leak and the soil to wash away. It is highly likely that the water pipe was damaged by the earthquake on the 20th. Neighbor: "When I turned on the tap (after the earthquake), the water was cloudy. I thought something was wrong." The water pipe was built in 1962, and on the 21st, the damaged section was temporarily filled with mortar. The road is expected to be restored by around 10 p.m. According to JR East, due to the sinkhole, train service on the Senseki Line is suspended all day between Yamoto and Ishinomaki stations, and on the Senseki Tohoku Line between Sendai and Ishinomaki stations. JR plans to resume normal service from the first train on the 22nd. Also, since water is being supplied through a different water pipe than the one that was damaged, there has been no water outage.
