The Most Mysterious Album Rollout of All Time
On April 20, 2013, a mysterious Boards of Canada vinyl was found in a NYC record store, containing the first of six cryptic transmissions that formed part of a 36-digit code. This discovery turned out to be the launch of an alternate reality game (ARG) meticulously designed to promote Boards of Canada’s new album, Tomorrow’s Harvest. The game included, among many other things, a global scavenger hunt for hidden albums, further transmissions across multimedia (BBC Radio 1, NPR, YouTube, Adult Swim), online codebreaking, and a listening party at an abandoned waterpark in the Mojave Desert. The Guardian praised the album’s viral marketing campaign as "ingenious" and a testament to the fanbase's dedication. In this video, we’ll dive deep into the most mysterious album rollout of all time: BOARDS OF CANADA - TOMORROW’S HARVEST 00:00 Intro 01:02 Boards of Canada 01:32 What is an Album Rollout? 01:57 Tomorrow’s Harvest ARG 02:13 Global Scavenger Hunt 04:12 YouTube Breadcrumb Trail 06:17 Cryptic Radio Transmissions 07:43 Decoding Source Codes 09:14 Art Gallery Projection 10:17 A Mysterious Website… 11:44 Album Announcement 12:20 Shibuya, Tokyo 12:46 Listening Party in the Desert 14:32 Conclusion XXXXXX / XXXXXX / XXXXXX / XXXXXX / XXXXXX / XXXXXX Support the channel: https://buymeacoffee.com/albumaffairs Be sure to check out my other Boards of Canada videos: • Electronic Picks #boardsofcanada #idm #warprecords #boc #arg #alternaterealitygame
