Achamos no Brasil: Caxambu (MG) aposta em carruagens elétricas e preserva história e turismo

Nestled among the mountains of Minas Gerais, an open-air history book unfolds. Centuries-old trees, preserved mansions, and mineral water springs showcase the city's past, which, almost 400 km from Belo Horizonte, once welcomed the imperial family. "Princess Isabel came to Caxambu for treatment of anemia using the mineral waters," recalls Ana Carla Amorim, from the Tourism Secretariat. In recent months, the novelty stirring up Caxambu is the arrival of Brazil's first two electric horse-drawn carriages. "The new carriages have been running for 30 days. Shall we take a ride?" asked a passenger. The approximately 25-minute ride, with padded seats and details reminiscent of British royalty, costs an average of R$ 20 per person and is the new sensation among residents and tourists. The change marks the end of horse-drawn carriages, banned by municipal law, fulfilling requests from the population and animal protection organizations. To encourage the transition, the city offers compensation and guarantees a safe destination for the animals. “Some want to keep the animals, but we will send them to places that will take good care of them,” explains the administration. With exclusive spaces in the main square and autonomy to circulate all day, the electric carriages combine tradition, innovation, and respect for the environment. “It will be something more practical and modern.
