KOMSING📍| where NOEL WILLIAMSON was Murdered (1911)
Komsing, a village in the Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh, holds a significant place in Indian colonial history, primarily due to its role in the Anglo-Abor War of 1911-12. Here is a brief overview of its historical importance: The Noel Williamson Incident (1911) The village gained notoriety during the British Raj following the assassination of Noel Williamson, an Assistant Political Officer, and his companion, Dr. Gregorson. Williamson had traveled into the Abor (Adi) hills without formal permission to determine the extent of Tibetan influence and the northern borders of the British Empire. In March 1911, Williamson was killed at Komsing by Adi warriors who viewed his expedition as an unwanted intrusion and a threat to their sovereignty. The Abor Expedition The death of Williamson triggered a massive retaliatory military campaign by the British known as the Abor Expedition (1911-1912). Thousands of British and Indian troops were sent into the hills to punish the Adi people. During this conflict, Komsing and several neighboring villages were targeted, and the British established a stronger administrative presence in the region thereafter. Resistance and Heritage Komsing is often associated with Matmur Jamoh, a local hero and resistance leader credited with orchestrating the attack on Williamson. Today, the village is home to a stone epitaph erected by the British in memory of Noel Williamson, which still stands as a historical landmark. Modern Significance Today, Komsing is recognized not just for its colonial past but as a center of Adi heritage. It remains a key site for researchers and historians interested in the indigenous resistance movements of Northeast India and the preservation of tribal traditions in the Siang valley. #komsingvillage #lifeinvillage #matmur jamoh #komsingvlog #arunachalpradesh
