East Riding Stages Rally Crashes, Highlights & Pure Sound, 23/2/25
The 2025 running saw the incredibly well organised Beverley based rallying spectacle become the opening round of yet another strong BRC season, featuring returning stars such as Will Creighton, Keith Cronin and James Williams, as well as a number of national rally champions stepping up to the top class with multiple welsh rally champion Matthew Hirst, tarmac ace Callum Black and the unstoppable force in Yorkshire, Elliott Payne. This year we went back to the 2023 spot of Coom Hill and refined the process a little better, if doing so whilst weather conditions turned nasty for the second run and as a worsening illness took hold (so apologies if there are hilarious editing/filming mistakes in this! I was barely alive by the end of the day) 2024 BRC Championship runner up Will Creighton & Liam Regan would take victory winning all but 3 stages on the event, but an incredible battle behind saw Keith Cronin & Mikie Galvin snatch 2nd from 3rd placed James Williams & Ross Whittock, Meirion Evans & Dale Fruniss in 4th, Callum Black & Jack Morton in 5th and Estonian Romet Jurgenson & Siim Oja in 6th on his MSport debut. 2nd place to 6th covered in the end by a little over half a minute! Sadly impressive early showings for Garry Pearson and Max McRae both ended in retirements. The BRC3 win went to Robert Proudlock & Dan James, as Meghan O’Kane & Nikki Addison took the BRC4 win an astonishing 4 minutes ahead of next crew, Michael Jenkins & Jordan Joines. Top Junior BRC spot would go to Kyle McBride & Darragh Mullen from 2nd place Craig Rahill & Conor Smith and 3rd Keelan Grogan & Ayrton Sherlock. The BRC Open Rally victory went to the Jersey based Sam Touzel & Max Freeman, after Hugh Brunton & Drew Sturrock fell foul of an infamously slippy junction on the Coom Hill stage. Finally, National Rally victory would go to Rob Cotton & Owen Paterson in their Subaru Impreza, taking 17th overall from an original seeding of 60th! The top 3 for the Protyre Motorsport UK Asphalt Rally Championship ironically went to 3 crews also signed on for the BRC points! James Williams & Ross Whittock not only got 3rd in BRC but got to take home the win for the national asphalt season opener, from Callum Black & Jack Morton in 2nd, with Neil Roskell and Rob Fagg rounding out the top 3. A notable absence from the top 3 would be last years East Riding Stages winner Mark Kelly & Will Atkins, who slid off on stage 2 and had to be released from the field that was holding them captive, promptly costing them a lot of time. Top 2wd crews consisted entirely of Ford Escorts, with 1st place going to Philip Rogers & Jordan Jones from 2nd placed Huw James & Lewis Sim, finishing the final loop of stages with a radiator full of both water and eggs after clobbering a chicane in the afternoons wet conditions, and finally 3rd placed Mark Jasper & Don Whyatt, a fine performance considering they were originally meant to be entered in their Metro 6R4 before a fire sidelined that car late last year Personal standout stars of the event must go to Johnny Milner & Duncan McMath, we only see him once a year but I'm convinced that the 2 time BRC champion would still be a top 10 competitor in BRC in modern machinery. Sadly the Toyota Corolla WRC car would be a victim of electrical gremlins on this one. Chris Richmond-Hand & Izzie Holman in the now wide track Toyota Starlet who were impressive as ever. Mark Holmes & Jonathan Cragg, fresh from detonating an engine on the Riponian Rally over the finish line of all places, they didn't seem to have slowed down one bit! Ernie Graham & Karen Graham in the immaculate BMW E30 M3, sadly sidelined as you can hear in this video, by a gearbox refusing to change gear. And lastly, our old friends Kyle Casement & Liam McCann. Destined not to finish in a car that looked lovely in service, but this time not doing it in front of us so we can't be blamed this time! Winners of the DNF cause Award, simply stating that they'd gone to the pub...
