KiCAD Simulation: Measuring Current Can Be Tricky
When using a .ac sweep, KiCAD won't let you directly plot current magnitude and phase, but you can add a current-sense resistor to do it for you. This video goes through the AC simulation of a simple series RL circuit and shows the tricks that you need to do to get KiCAD to measure current as well as a voltage difference between two nodes. SPICE can do these things directly, but KiCAD simulation is still a bit limited. The circuit analyzed here is a simple RL circuit and the example was taken from this online, open-source textbook: https://www.electronx.ca/education/ac... I also solved this circuit by hand here: • RL Series Circuit: Calculate Voltages and ... And with LTSpice here: • LTSpice AC Sweep (at a Single Frequency!)
