Frontier/Xterra VG33 Distributor Position Setting (If you Forgot to mark where it was)
Replacing the Distributor on the Nissan VG33 V6 motor is super simple as it is just held on by one bolt, but making sure you time the replacement correctly very important...especially if you accidentally forgot to mark the position of the rotor button and set the #1 cylinder to TDC before removing. Since this does happen from time to time, or in my case with the White 2000 Frontier in the video where the previous owner put it in wrong, here's a video of where the rotor button is oriented with the motor on TDC on the #1 Cylinder for reference. The video also shows the standard timing once the position is set correctly as well. Note that it is a 50/50 chance that the timing will be correct as it could also be 180 degrees out...It won't hurt the motor to try to start it with the Distributor Timing incorrect, so if it doesn't start on the first setup, rotate the crank around again till the rotor button is directly opposite to the correct position, then pull the distributor and set it back 180 degrees to the correct orientation. Hopefully this helps a bit and all the best ! Steve
