Synopsis of the Film- सुखी खाते-पीते परिवार में मन मुटाव शुरू हो जाता है….जब सब 10 लाख की लाटरी का टिकट खरीदते हैं…..न छोटे को बड़े का लिहाज रह जाता है…..न बड़े को छोटे का प्यार…..दो दोस्त बड़ी जुगाड़ से पार्टनरशिप में टिकट खरीदते हैं और ईनाम मिलने पर क्या-क्या करेंगे…..भविष्य की योजनाएं बना लड़ते-झगड़ते रहते हैं…..बड़े भईया एक ऐसे बाबा के पास जा लहुलहान लौटते हैं जो पत्थर मारते हैं……और जब विश्वास है कि जो उनके पत्थर खा लेता है उसका कार्यसिद्ध हो जाता है…..यह देख गठिया रोग ग्रस्त चाचा भी बाबा के पास जाना चाहता है…..अन्ततः ईनाम निकलता है उस घर में ही नहीं किसी का….बल्कि गांव छोड़….प्रदेश छोड़…..देश छोड़…..दूर अफ्रीका में किसी का…….. In Lottery, Premchand is at his humorous best, he reidicules and mocks at human vices of greed, selfishness and desires which so earily entrap our minds and hearts. Vikram's familymembers, his elder brothers, mother and all have bought lottery tickets but he could not because he is unemployed and doesn't have the money. Though everyone has promised to give share to every other famiily memb er if he or she wins the prize money, but Vikram's aspirations and desires and not to be fulfilled by a small ehsare. He heeds the whole amount of 10 lakhs moreover he is doubtful of the promises made by his brother and even his mother. Vikram discusses the matter with his best friend, a school teacher, since he too cannot afford to buy a Rs. 10 Lottery ticket, but of them sell the old books and jointly buy a ticket each promising to share half of the prize money with the other. The writer gives a humorous depiction of the bizzare things the aspirants start doing to win the prize money. As time passes by, doubts and suspicions raise their heads. The members of the joint family who loved and respected each other start quarreling and fighting. Vikram and his friend too have heated exchanges with both believing that the other would ditch him once he gets the prize money. Greed and selfishness turn lovely human beings into insane beasts. And at last when the result is declared they are all shocked to find out that an American Negro has won the prize.
