At this lecture, you will learn why Tashkent is a unique city with the most beautiful concrete buildings in the world, which we often overlook and fail to appreciate. The period from the 1960s to the 1980s is particularly interesting in terms of the architectural layering of cities during this era of historical optimism. Many of the buildings constructed during this period never received state protection status, and as a result, they were destroyed or disappeared amidst the city's modern sprawl. Attendees will learn about new routes through Tashkent that hold untapped potential for global culture. Architectural projects that, for various reasons, were never realized, but which most accurately reflect the societal aspirations for openness and freedom characteristic of that time, will also be showcased. LECTURER Alexander Fedorov Enthusiast, researcher of the aesthetics of modernist architecture, graphic designer, and art director of visual communications. The author of the project about the seismic modernist architecture of Tashkent has an Instagram page @tashkent_modernism and is on Behance. The project was a finalist in the V-A-C Foundation competition "Svodov Friends' Club. Open Call" in 2022, held at the GES-2 Cultural Center in Moscow.
