Most Americans think they've seen Mexico. After all, millions of Americans visit Cancun, Cabo, Puerto Vallarta, Cozumel, Costa Maya, and other popular destinations every year. But does visiting a resort, cruise port, or tourist district really mean you've seen Mexico? In this video, I explore a realization that completely changed the way I think about Mexico. The Mexico most Americans know is often a version built for visitors. Beyond the beaches, resorts, and cruise ships is a much larger, more complex country where more than 130 million people live, work, raise families, build businesses, and go about their daily lives. This isn't a criticism of tourism. Resort Mexico is real Mexico. Cruise-port Mexico is real Mexico. The question is whether those experiences tell the whole story.
