Amid the commotion caused by a fire breaking out this morning (the 21st) at Hanyang Apartment in Apgujeong-dong, Gangnam-gu, which led to the evacuation of residents, it is now suspected that a Chinese-made robot vacuum cleaner was the cause of the fire. A resident of the unit where the fire started told the media, "The robot vacuum cleaner in my house was burned black," adding, "It seems the fire started from the robot vacuum." They further stated, "I saw sparks flying from the robot vacuum and evacuated in a hurry." It has been reported that the robot vacuum cleaner in question is a product manufactured in China. Earlier today, around 10:30 AM, a fire broke out in a unit on the 5th floor of Hanyang Apartment. The fire department deployed 36 vehicles and 133 personnel, completely extinguishing the fire about an hour and a half after it started. It was confirmed that three people, including a woman in her 70s, received treatment on-site for smoke inhalation, while 21 residents evacuated on their own. One woman in her 70s who inhaled smoke is reportedly complaining of dizziness. Hanyang Apartment, where the fire occurred, is an aging complex completed in 1978 that is now 48 years old and is currently included in the Apgujeong District 4 redevelopment zone. Police and fire authorities are investigating the exact cause of the fire, including whether it started from a robot vacuum cleaner.
