On February 1, 2026, I went to visit Semyon Yakovlevich Lyulko. For those who remember, he's one of the three heroes of my film "On Behalf of the Living and the Dead," a true combat veteran of the Great Patriotic War (paratrooper, mortarman). On May 26, 2026, he will turn 100. He was unable to attend the awards ceremony at the "Fathers and Sons" Film Festival because he was ill. I was given his award and instructed to present it to him. Semyon Yakovlevich greeted me very warmly and joyfully. We talked for over three hours about the war... He was worried that I hadn't included his stories about the defense of Moscow, which he was 15 years old during. Back then, he worked in a factory, helping with rescues and evacuating factories, extinguishing aerial bombs, and building Moscow's defense line. He went to the front after the death of his older brother. I explained to the veteran that the purpose of my film was to show combat veterans, and the defense of Moscow, of course, deserves a separate film. That's a topic in itself. Semyon Yakovlevich spoke in detail about the Defense of Moscow, about his work and combat career—how he and his comrades saved not only our country but all of Europe. Today, he is the only one left from the entire division. Semyon Yakovlevich gave many wise instructions on raising children and future generations. Of course, these days, not only children but even many parents no longer think that way. The fondest memories remain of meeting a veteran of the Great Patriotic War. May God grant Semyon Yakovlevich life to see his 100th birthday, the 81st anniversary of the Great Victory, and to live on. A unique generation that will never exist again.
