We Wanted to Believe Shenzhen Was the Future (But is it?)

Shenzhen blew our minds and confused us in equal measure. We spent 48 hours in China's most futuristic city, ordered coffee delivered by drone (which took 2 hours), visited a robot store where a robot tried to start a fight with us, got our faces printed onto lattes by AI, wandered through Huaqiangbei, the biggest tech market on Earth and found out half of it is fakes. We ate roast goose, Michelin-recommended braised pork rice, and Chinese donuts, survived a cockroach battle on the 27th floor, and stood in a metro station so architecturally insane it looks better on camera than in real life. Is Shenzhen really the future, or just a really good show?
