PÓLIPO NO INTESTINO – PRECISO ME PREOCUPAR? | DRA PATRÍCIA SILVEIRA

INTESTINAL POLYPS – SHOULD I BE CONCERNED? | DR. PATRÍCIA SILVEIRA According to estimates from the National Cancer Institute (INCA), colorectal cancer is among the three most common tumors in the Brazilian population, with 16.66 cases per 100,000 men and 17.62 per 100,000 women. However, the main screening test for the disease, colonoscopy, is still under-requested by patients because it is considered invasive and expensive. These issues, however, do not diminish the importance of expanding the practice of colonoscopy. "Long-term mortality reductions have been proven when preventive bowel cancer screening is performed in those without symptoms. Colonoscopy is recommended starting at age 50 (or 40 for those with a family history); and/or annual fecal occult blood testing is also recommended. This is the best method for identifying bowel cancer before it even begins, in its benign form, that is, a polyp. #COLONOSCOPY #COLOPROCTOLOGY #CANCER #BOWELCANCER #PROCTOLOGY #ABDOMINALDOR #POLYP Dr. Patrícia Silveira General surgeon specializing in video-assisted surgery Postgraduate degree in coloproctology Postgraduate degree in functional diseases of the digestive system.
