However, time goes by, the mileage increases, the vehicle gets older, and the service experience becomes more extensive. Recently, cases of valve cover failure have become more frequent. While driving, a popping sound is heard in the hood, smoke increases from the exhaust pipes, and a "Power Limit" message appears on the instrument panel. Computer diagnostics indicate the turbocharger parameters, and it is often necessary to check the intake system for leaks. The weak point is the four pipes of the intake manifold, which is mounted on the top of the engine. This is a known issue, and the manufacturer has issued a technical bulletin to address it, which refers to installing new-style valve covers, providing the part number. Valve cover failure due to leaks cannot be considered widespread, at least not at this time. However, there is one peculiarity that could lead to an incorrect diagnostic result. In our case, there is an obvious defect that can be detected visually, but if the cover has a minor leak, there is a high probability of mistaking the intake manifold. There is no manufacturer's bulletin for the 4.4TDV8 engine valve cover issue for installing upgraded covers. In the event of a malfunction, a similar cover will have to be installed. During installation, note that the fuel injectors are removed. This indicates superficial intervention in the fuel system, which entails the installation of new, one-time-installation parts such as copper sealing washers, rubber seals for the fuel return line, and metal high-pressure pipes.
