SILKROAD | "Mahk Jchi" - Silkroad Ensemble with Rhiannon Giddens (Official Video)

The official video for “Mahk Jchi” from ‘American Railroad,’ released on Nonesuch Records. Featuring Tuscarora/Taino artist Pura Fé, the song’s lyrics translate to “our hearts are full, our minds are good, our ancestors come and give us strength. They say never forget who you are or where you come from.” The word “Mahk Jchi” means “Our Hearts” in the Tutelo/Occaneechi/Saponi dialect of eastern North Carolina/Virginia. This version of the song is paired with a song Pura Fé wrote at 16 years old called “Roots,” written after learning about the devastation of Uranium strip mining in Navajo and Dene lands. May this song speak to a more sustainable way of life, honoring those who came before us and paving a better way for those after us. -- Learn more: http://www.silkroad.org/ Follow Silkroad here:   / silkroadproject     / silkroadproject     / silkroadproject   See Silkroad Live: http://www.silkroad.org/calendar
