Panel - Security in the Baltic Sea Region and Beyond
[see ENGLISH version below ] Varðberg, pólska sendiráðið á Íslandi og utanríkisráðuneytið stóðu að málþingi í Norræna húsinu miðvikudaginn 10. júní 2026 um öryggis- og stjórnmálasamstarf á Eystrasaltssvæðinu. Viðburðurinn markaði lok pólskrar formennsku í Eystrasaltsráðinu (CBSS) og undirbúning þess að Ísland taki við formennsku 1. júlí 2026. Málþingið, sem bar heitið „Öryggis- og stjórnmálasamstarf á Eystrasaltssvæðinu og víðar“, fjallaði um helstu áskoranir og tækifæri í samstarfi ríkja á svæðinu. Þar voru rædd málefni á borð við vernd mikilvægra innviða, viðbrögð við fjölþáttaógnum, truflanir á GPS-merkjum, samhæfingu öryggismála og áframhaldandi stuðningur við Úkraínu. Einnig voru kynnt áherslumál Íslands í væntanlegri formennsku, þar sem lögð verður áhersla á aukið samstarf, sjálfbærni og svæðisbundna samkennd. Fyrirlesara voru Radosław Sikorski, aðstoðarforsætisráðherra og utanríkisráðherra Póllands; Þorgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir, utanríkisráðherra Íslands; Artur Harazim, aðstoðarutanríkisráðherra Póllands; Jónas G. Allansson, sviðsstjóri varnarmála í utanríkisráðuneytinu; Anna Hjartardóttir, sviðsstjóri alþjóðamála; Gustav Lindström, framkvæmdastjóri CBSS; og Katarzyna Barcikowska, formaður embættismannanefndar CBSS, Davíð Stefánsson formaður Varðbergs og Aleksander Kropiwnicki sendifulltrúi. Dagskrá hófst kl. 9:00 með móttöku og léttum veitingum. Setning var kl. 9:30 með ávarpi Aleksander Kropiwnicki og upptöku frá Radosław Sikorski. Þorgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir kynnti síðan áherslur Íslands í formennsku CBSS. Í kjölfarið voru tvö pallborð: fyrst um pólitískar áherslur og samstarf innan Eystrasaltsráðsins og síðan um öryggismál á svæðinu og víðar. -------------------------------------- ENGLISH version: Varðberg ATA Iceland, the Polish Embassy in Iceland, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted a seminar at the Nordic House in Reykjavík, Iceland, on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, about security and political cooperation in the Baltic Sea region. The event marked the conclusion of Poland's chairmanship of the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS) and the preparations for Iceland to take over the chairmanship on July 1, 2026. The seminar, titled “Security and Political Cooperation in the Baltic Sea Region and Beyond,” addressed the main challenges and opportunities in regional cooperation. Topics included the protection of critical infrastructure, responses to multifaceted threats, GPS signal disruptions, coordination of security matters, and continued support for Ukraine. Iceland's priorities for its upcoming chairmanship were presented, emphasizing increased cooperation, sustainability, and regional solidarity. Speakers were HE Radosław Sikorski, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland; HE Þorgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Iceland; HE Artur Harazim, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland; Mr. Jónas G. Allansson, Director of Defense Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Ms. Anna Hjartardóttir, Director of International Affairs; Mr. Gustav Lindström, Executive Director of the CBSS; Ms. Katarzyna Barcikowska, Chair of the CBSS Officials Committee, and Mr. David Stefansson chairman of Varðberg ATA Iceland, and Mr. Aleksander Kropiwnicki. The program began at 9:00 AM with a reception and light refreshments. The opening took place at 9:30 AM with a speech by Mr. Aleksander Kropiwnicki and a recorded message from HE Radosław Sikorski. HE Þorgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir presented Iceland's priorities for the CBSS chairmanship. This was followed by two panel discussions: the first on political priorities and cooperation within the CBSS, and the second on security issues in the region and beyond.
