Bell Ringing at Holy Trinity Church Guildford, Surrey

The 2nd tower on my 18th birthday outing. We next ventured to Holy Trinity in Guildford, a grand brick Palladian church at the top of te High Street hill. The church replaces a much older medieval church that was destroyed in 1740 after its tower and spire collapsed. The tower holds a 23cwt ring of eight in Eb of two founders - Lester and Pack of 1792 and Taylor’s of Loughborough of 1912. We were pleasantly surprised to find the bells half muffled. They were muffled for a Peal commemorating the Ringers from Guildford who died in the First World War. The tenor and seventh are the crown jewels of the tower... they resonate beautifully! All in all, a fantastic gutsy old eight!
