This Isn't NORMAL

In today’s weather update, I’m breaking down a pattern that is anything but typical summer weather. The heat continues to be relentless across parts of the United States, with dangerous heat index values, expanding drought conditions, and very little meaningful relief for many areas. I’ll show you where the worst heat is shifting next, why the humidity is making conditions feel so extreme, and which parts of the country could stay locked into a rough stretch of hot weather through the next couple of weeks. We’ll also take a close look at the latest drought monitor, including the areas seeing severe, extreme, and even exceptional drought. Severe weather is also a concern today, especially across parts of the Mid-Atlantic and the south-central Plains. I’ll walk through the latest severe weather outlook, including the damaging wind risk, possible thunderstorm clusters, hail potential, and what the future radar is showing as storms develop through the afternoon and evening. Plus, we’ll check in on the tropics. The GFS is showing a possible homegrown tropical signal later in the forecast period, and I’ll explain why the Gulf, the Southeast coast, wind shear, frontal boundaries, and Saharan dust all matter as we watch for any signs of tropical development. Make sure you stay weather aware, especially if you’re dealing with dangerous heat or severe storms today.
