The place name is a transliteration of the Ainu word Kamui Kotan (where God lives). It is one of the eight scenic spots of Asahikawa because both banks of the Ishikari River are beautiful scenic spots and it is also a rare landscape. Furthermore, it is the site of "Kamuikotan Station", and there are still 3 old station buildings and steam locomotives. You can feel the history of both Ainu and railway.
