Toledo is located about 70 km from Madrid and we went there by train. The first attraction that greets tourists in Toledo is a very beautiful train station building, which looks more like a medieval Moorish palace. Literally 10 minutes walk from the station is the Alcantara Bridge and the gates to the city. Immediately after the gates there are quite steep climbs, so you need to be prepared to overcome such obstacles in the heat, and in general, the city of Toledo gets very hot in the sun. Not far from the gates is the Santa Cruz Museum with an incredibly beautiful entrance group, and next to the museum is the central city square - small, but very nice. From the square we went to one of the main attractions of Toledo - the Alcazar castle, founded by the Romans in the 3rd century. For many years it was the residence of the Spanish kings, and now it houses the army museum. The Alcazar also has a very picturesque courtyard and a large observation deck with beautiful views. Then we went to the huge Cathedral of Santa Maria, or as it is also called, the Toledo Cathedral. This is one of the largest cathedral buildings in Spain and Europe. It is a must-see for those who want to experience the full power of the cultural and religious heritage of Spain. Then, along the narrow cozy streets of the old medieval city, we went to the Jewish quarter, where two ancient synagogues have been preserved that have survived to this day. The first of them is the 14th-century Del Transito synagogue with a very beautiful cedar ceiling and carved walls. And the second synagogue is Santa Maria La Blanca - with a very atypical interior decoration and an interesting history. Then we reached the Franciscan monastery of San Juan de Los Reyes, which is one of the best examples of the Gothic style. Then we went to the observation deck, which is located behind the fortress walls of Toledo. It offers a beautiful view not only of the surroundings, but also of the walls of the ancient city themselves. Along the way we came across the oldest monastery in Toledo - Santo Domingo el Antiguo, in the crypt of which El Greco rests. And since the ancient capital of Spain Toledo is considered a city of three religions, we also visited the ancient mosque of Cristo de La Luz, which has a history of more than 1000 years. At the end of our walk we found a small green park, which is located outside the walls, since there would be no place for it in the city itself. We went back to Madrid by bus. As the Spaniards say: "Whoever has not seen Toledo has not seen Spain." And it is difficult to disagree with this. It perfectly conveys the spirit of ancient Spain and immerses you in its cultural and religious heritage.
