Cree Nations Climate Change Forum | Eeyou Istchee Cree Nation

At the first Cree Nation Climate Change forum in November 2018, representatives from ten First Nations of Eeyou Itschee came together to discuss climate change in their land in Canada. After observing the impacts of climate change for some time, the Cree Nation of Eeeyou Itschee decided it was time to come together to discuss how they desired to respond and to adapt to the current and future changes, to preserve their valuable knowledge, to increase our resilience, and to ensure a healthy future for their children. During the 2-day forum, they gathered together with researchers, governmental officers and facilitators to develop regional action plans to tackled climate change. This video was produced to raise awareness to community members as well as other First Nation communities in Canada on the importance of planning and implementing responses that will help to lower the risks associated with present and future climate change impacts. This video was produced as part of a project that adopted a participatory approach. This project included the training and guidance of a video team consisting of Cree youth who filmed and edited these interviews with community representatives. During the forum the Cree Nation developed 8 detailed action plans for all the key areas of impact they identified. To read more about the Climate Adaptation Action Plan, please consult the forum report titled "Envisioning Responses to Climate Change in Eeyou Istchee": https://www.cngov.ca/wp-content/uploa... This video is part of the playlist “Effects of climate change on Cree communities in Canada”. The playlist encloses community participatory videos produced by the Cree communities over the course of 2018 and 2019. These videos were produced as part of the “Climate Change Adaption Action Plan” strategic project to document the Cree nation’s perspective on the effects of climate change within their land. This project was managed by the Cree Nation Government in partnership with all ten Cree communities in Eeeyou Istchee. It was facilitated by InsightShare with the financial support of Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada.
