Around 2,500 to 3,000 children in the Netherlands are homeschooled. That is not an easy choice. In addition to the fact that homeschooling demands a lot from parents, there has recently been increasing discussion about homeschooling in politics and public debate. In this episode, we delve into the world of homeschooling. Why do parents choose to homeschool their children, despite the practical challenges and increasing political pressure from The Hague? Why do these children not attend a regular school? Why does the government view homeschooling as a cause for concern? Who are the people who consciously choose this form of education? We discuss these questions with Daan Lensink. He is a board member of the Dutch Association for Homeschooling (Nederlandse Vereniging voor Thuisonderwijs) and also homeschools himself.
