A Risky Game of Winter WILD CAMPING - Motorhome Vanlife at Loch Lomond

This time, as part of our 2023 UK Motorhome Tour, we're leaving England and heading for Scotland. We'll be wild camping in Carlisle, at Loch Lomand, a remote lighthouse and a marina before settling at a motorhome and caravan park. After an off grid night stop at Carlisle, we briefly visit the Castle and the Cathedral, before hitting the road to travel further North. We weren't able to go inside the Castle as it wasn't fully open - we were there pre-season. The stunning scenery at our first Scottish park up was a truly magical sight. The drone video footage captured the scope of the seclusion - we were completely alone, and were hoping to see the Northern Lights. It wasn't to be as we were a day too late. Largs Marina was our next stop where we had an undisturbed night in the public car park. We're finally off to Loch Lomond. Wow, the scenery on the way was stunning. Some of the corners on the road were a little tight, but we arrived unscathed. The aerial video footage, we hope, conveys the tranquility and beauty of the area. However, if you're heading that way, and you want to stay overnight in your tent, camper, or motorhome, you'll need to book a space online when visiting between the 1st of March and the 30th of September at a cost of £4 per unit. There aren't that many spaces, so book early if you can! The Inveruglas Pyramid - An Ceann Mòr (or Large Headland) - at the loch, is an 8-metre high pyramid installed in 2015 as part of the Scotland Scenic Routes project. As you can see in the video, there are steps facing the loch where you can climb to get a better view of the size and beauty of Loch Lomond. Our first Scottish campsite was at Tyndrum where panning for gold is a thing! What a beautiful site, adjacent to the West Highland Way. The staff are very friendly and our riverside pitch was tremendous - lovely hot showers too! We had a bit of a dilemma though. Reports were emerging that bad weather was due to hit the UK over the next few days. We weren't sure which way to head next. Early indicators suggested that the mid West coast would escape the snow, which was expected across the country, particularly in the North and East.
