Can the two-handed greatsword (spadone/montante/zweihander) be used one handed?

People asked me if the two-handed sword (AKA montante, spadone, zweihander or bidenhander) could be used one-handed. Well yes it can and in fact we see one-handed techniques in a few of the two-handed sword treatises, often to thrust, occasionally to cut. However we should be under no misconception that you can comfortably used a two-handed sword easily or regularly in one hand. It is a great big heavy weight and as shown here fairly slow in one hand.
