The Sharp X68000: the Legend, the Tribute, and the Games

For 25 years, I wanted a real Sharp X68000. I never bought one, so I built a tribute inside an original case, and then, without expecting it, found the real 1987 machine here in the UK. This video is the story of both: the legend behind Japan's most iconic 16-bit home computer, the tribute build I called the X68PC, and the original X68000 finally booting on my desk after almost forty years. The Sharp X68000 launched in 1987 and barely crossed into the West. Most of us in Europe only heard rumours: somewhere in Japan there was a home computer running arcade-perfect ports, with graphics and sound consoles of the era couldn't touch. I go through the myth (Street Fighter II' Champion Edition, the X68000 Perfect Catalogue, the old Oh!X magazines), the build (retrofitting a modern PC into an empty original case and keeping the 1987 speaker alive), and the real machine (removing a forty-year-old battery, the RAM expansion card, SX-Window, and getting the video output right with an OSSC).
