The windshield wiper needs preventive maintenance on the rubber blades that are in contact with the glass, but it also happens that a defect occasionally appears in the wiring, turn signal switch or in the motor mechanism that moves the pivots. Today we will talk about the windshield wiper of a van that had been stopped for a few years and is now being repaired to get back on the road. The windshield wiper of this van had some defects and we will talk about each of them now. First, I replaced the wiper blades because the rubber was completely dry. At that moment, I realized that one of the arms that moves the wiper blade was not the correct one from the Kombi, but rather one from a Beetle that has a straight tip and holds a smaller wiper blade. I looked for one of these arms at a used parts scrapyard and replaced it so that both were the same and the glass cleaning would be better. During the first test, I realized that only the second speed, the fastest, was working. I went to the engine and identified a bad connection in the 4-pin terminal socket just before the engine's power input. I removed all the cables, cleaned the terminals and applied a WD40 lubricant spray. With this procedure, I noticed that the first speed returned to normal, but the intermittent timer and the automatic stop in the correct position still did not work. I went to the timer relay and did all the signal input tests coming from the turn signal switch and also tested the wire that goes directly to the engine, and everything was correct. With that, I noticed a defect in the windshield timer relay and replaced it. After these procedures, everything went back to normal and the windshield wiper started working as original from the factory.
