(Onbewerkte versie) Koningin Wilhelmina bezoekt Alkmaar (1920)

There was a festive mood in Alkmaar. Streets were decorated with colorful banners, garlands and banners. All the lights (and candles) in the city seemed to be lit, even the boats on the canals and canal were decorated with it, and the Dutch tricolor adorned everywhere. Piet's Mill was also wrapped in it. The Alkmaarders, young and old, wore their best sounds and there was singing and music everywhere on the street. Especially in the evenings, when the lights were lit everywhere, according to the Alkmaarsche Courant, the city showed a "truly fantastic street scene" and "hosted and danced cheerful groups in the glow of multicolored lanterns or the strong light of electric lamps encased in pine green". The cause of all that partying was a visit from Queen Wilhelmina. The city authorities were informed that Wilhelmina would visit Schagen on Friday 10 September 1920, following the agricultural day that was held there. And if Her Majesty was in the area, could she possibly also visit Alkmaar? And she did, on Saturday, September 11, 1920. Read more about the visit here: https://www.regionaalarchiefalkmaar.n...
