In this new adventure, the Exploring Zacatecas team visits the municipality of Ojo Caliente to learn about the history and traditions that still thrive in the region's rural communities. Accompanied by Engineer José Manuel, we arrive at the home of Don Chayo, a nearly 90-year-old man who possesses admirable energy and a memory brimming with experiences. Don Chayo shares memories of his life in the countryside, where he worked for many years as a goat herder and drove cattle through the hills of Papantón. During the tour, he shows us the remnants of an old hacienda that once stood nearby, including some water tanks and a cistern that still stand as witnesses to the past. However, the most impressive feature is an old waterwheel equipped with a water extraction system that, he tells us, is of Japanese origin and remains a fascinating example of engineering from another era. We also enjoy a delicious lunch with friends from the community while listening to more stories and anecdotes. Don Chayo tells us about prickly pears, their properties, and the risks of consuming them in excess. He also shares stories about supposed buried treasures in the region, which, according to local legends, are haunted, and that's why no one dares to look for them.
