Maxx - MEGAMIXX

Maxx, a German Eurodance project, achieved international success in the mid-90s with several hit singles. Let’s delve into their story: Origin: Maxx was the brainchild of German record producer Juergen Wind (also known as George Torpey) and German music executive David Brunner. Their collaboration began after successfully releasing “Another Night” by M.C. Sar & The Real McCoy. Inspired by the Belgian sound, they teamed up with British songwriter Bruce Hammond Earlam (from Bruce & Bongo) to create Maxx. Debut Single: Their debut single, “Get-A-Way,” featured vocals from Boris Köhler and session singer Samira Besic. Earlam wrote the raggamuffin rap lyrics for the track, while Köhler learned to rap in the raggamuffin style. Due to contractual issues, Besic departed the project before the music video was filmed. Köhler received songwriting credits, although Earlam’s involvement remained uncredited publicly. Anonymity and Aliases: To maintain anonymity and avoid conflicts with their record label, the team used aliases. Wind was George Torpey, Brunner was The Hitman, and Köhler was Gary Bokoe. Real McCoy rapper Olaf Jeglitza was also falsely associated with the project due to his role as a shareholder in Wind’s production company. Hits: Maxx’s hits include: “Get-A-Way”: A catchy track that gained international acclaim. “No More (I Can’t Stand It)”: Another successful single. “You Can Get It”: Contributed to their popularity. Acronym: The name “Maxx” stands for Maximum Xstasy. Despite their relatively short active period, Maxx left a lasting impression on the Eurodance scene.
