CATIMBÓ - UM CULTO À JUREMA SAGRADA

Jurema Sagrada, a religion of indigenous origin stemming from the Tupi shamanism, has incorporated elements of African and European doctrines and rites in a syncretic mix that characterizes the manifestations of Brazilian beliefs. Our interview today with Juremeiro Leandro, leader of the Caboclo Pena Branca house, while not intending to conclude the matter, clarifies the cult and the rite and will be followed by a program to be broadcast in 15 days featuring an event of consecration of a disciple to Jurema Sagrada. Legend says that the sacred powers of Jurema were conferred by Jesus when, during the exile in Egypt, the Holy Family rested under a Jurema tree and, receiving the Lord's touch, the powers that still confer its sacredness today were transmitted to it, a fact recognized and praised in ritual chants.
