■ Flower Bus Terminal The Seoul Express Bus Terminal in Banpo-dong, Seocho-gu, sees an average of 28,000 passengers daily. A garden in the heart of the city opens when buses and subways stop and people dwindle! From midnight to 1:00 PM, the terminal transforms into a magical fairytale space, bathed in yellow lights and filled with a rich fragrance of colorful flowers. Located on the third floor of the Seoul Express Bus Terminal, this market is the largest flower wholesale market in Korea! Over 300 vendors sell over 1,000 varieties of fresh flowers. With February's graduation and entrance season approaching, the merchants here are busier than ever. Merchants juggle the early morning hours to brighten happy moments, while those who buy flowers create unforgettable memories. We captured their life stories, more beautiful than flowers, on camera. ■ Half a Century with Flowers The third floor of the Seoul Express Bus Terminal is the largest flower wholesale market and the birthplace of Korea's floral history. In 1986, some 120 wholesale flower merchants settled in the basement of the terminal. However, most of them had been selling flowers in Namdaemun since the 1960s! I met first-generation flower merchants with over 50 years of experience, as well as second- and third-generation flower sellers who inherited the business from their grandfathers and fathers. I heard from them stories of the precious and precious flowers of their time. I captured on camera their lives, as they spent decades at the terminal, busy and unseen, never able to savor the fragrance of flowers. ■ A Battle of Wits in the Flower Fields Every Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday, flowers arrive at the wholesale market. When the third floor is filled with the fragrance of flowers from all over the country, a battle of wits erupts between wholesalers and middlemen from midnight to 4 a.m. Because flowers lose their vitality over time, they are at their most expensive as soon as they arrive. However, the results can change depending on the quantity of flowers arriving that day and the demand from middlemen. Middlemen who quietly ask prices without buying anything, while wholesalers notice the shortage of frequently asked items! On a quiet night, a fierce game of wits unfolds on the third floor of the Express Bus Terminal, a garden in the heart of the city. ■ The Best Bouquet of a Lifetime The Express Bus Terminal flower wholesale market is easily accessible. As word of mouth spreads, it attracts visitors who want to hand-pick fresh flowers and give them to their loved ones. Buying flowers can also be arranged for 5,000 to 10,000 won at the flower supply store. Bouquets are a staple in graduation and entrance photos. A grandmother traveled all the way from Cheonan to attend her granddaughter's graduation. Thinking of her granddaughter's success, she makes dozens of rounds to select flowers.
