Moving from Trauma-Informed to Healing-Centered
In many ways trauma-informed pedagogies have embodied many deficit notions related to students’ pain and (in)abilities. A move away from trauma-informed to healing-centered may support a more asset-based pedagogical approach that both recognizes the role trauma plays in students’ lives and the ways in which institutes of higher education might address trauma through asset-based, and culturally sustaining, interactions. This webinar explores the relationship between trauma-informed pedagogies and deficit ideologies. Dr. Asif Wilson, associate dean of instruction at Harold Washington College, is the presenter.
